The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship is responsible for implementing the “Population Register and Emirates Identity Card Program”, which covers the personal records of the entire population in the United Arab Emirates. All the important information of the population will be maintained in electronic formats.

The authority is responsible for issuing the Emirates ID card to both citizens and other residents in the UAE. The Emirates also contains biometric information, including fingerprints and facial recognition data about the cardholder. It is important to keep Emirates ID up to date and carry it at all times as failure to produce when required may result in fines.
